Back to previous page Barrier Painting Varnish (Alcohol-based) | Creates an insulating film between two coats of paint. Because it cannot be reversed using solvents which allow layers of varnish applied over the top to be removed, this varnish is very popular among restorers since it enables them to return to the previous layer in the event of a mistake. Use with great care. Intermediate varnish used to isolate oil based paint layers. Particularly useful for the double varnishing technique. Only apply to fully dried paint layers (minimum 6 months). Reduces the risk of sinkage, and allows repainting by isolating the previous coats. May be over-coated with any final painting varnish without risk of distempering the paint coats. 40% solids content. Gives a clear, gloss film.

Vernis Les vernis permettent de protéger une oeuvre des agressions naturelles et chimiques. Ils lui confèrent un aspect uniforme mat, satiné ou brillant. Les vernis sont des vernis provisoires (vernis à retoucher) ou des vernis finals pour préserver l'oeuvre. Le choix du vernis est fonction de la nature de l'oeuvre, de l'effet souhaité et de la rapidité du séchage.
Appliquer sur une oeuvre parfaitement sèche ; ceci nécessite d'attendre 1 an avant application d'un vernis final. Cette application de vernis final doit s'effectuer en 2 phases : application d'abord d'une première couche de vernis dilué à 10-20%, puis après séchage d'un jour ou deux, d'une deuxième couche de vernis pur ou dilué à 10%. Bien tirer le vernis en croisant lors de son application.
